Following an over a decade-long hiatus from the premium cigar industry, Tim Ozgener is back in the game with the introduction of Ozgener Family Cigars. This new brand was founded in 2022 and is already catching the attention of aficionados around the country with top-rated blends, even winning the 2022 New Company of the Year award from the popular publication Halfwheel. Before stepping away from cigars, Tim Ozgener was the president of famous C.A.O. Cigars brand while it was under the Swedish Match banner from 2007-2010. In fact, it was Ozgener’s father, Cano Ozgener, who founded C.A.O. International way back in 1968 as a business to sell Turkish meerschaum pipes. When the 1990s cigar boom was starting to kick off, C.A.O. pivoted to cigar making and the brand quickly became a popular household name.
When Swedish Match and S.T.G. merged in 2010 to create the modern General Cigar Company, C.A.O. was caught in the middle. As C.A.O. was forced out of Nashville to Richmond, Ozgener, along with much of the C.A.O. sales team, left the once family-owned brand. Ozgener and his father created an arts center and focused on community outreach, while the old sales staff went on to create the innovative Crowned Heads Cigars brand.Tim Ozgener would maintain a close relationship with Crowned Heads throughout the years, albeit outside of the public eye. When the Covid-19 pandemic swept across the world, Ozgener reflected on his heritage and his family’s place in the cigar industry and felt inspired to return. And return he did, with a fantastic regular production line that celebrates his Turkish heritage, and a limited-edition blend that commemorates his father and his father’s artwork.
A nod to the lands his family hails from, Bosphorus is Ozgener Family Cigars’ first ever release.
